Service Design is The New Management
Navigate a transformative journey within products and services, excelling until the last mile of design.
This masterclass calls for a profound reorientation in our actions and worldviews. It emphasizes the urgency of moving towards an ecological civilization. Central to this shift is the exploration of how design can contribute to this transformation.
Ezio will focus on the idea of designing for an ecological civilization can be encapsulated in the concept of “designing for proximity and care.” This involves fostering closeness between individuals and their environment and cultivating a sense of care for the interconnected web of life that we are all a part of, including the most vulnerable members of society, but also serves as a powerful tool for mobilizing social resources to confront the ongoing climate emergency.
In essence, the masterclass seeks to inspire a paradigm shift in both our actions and perspectives, advocating for a design approach that prioritizes proximity, care, and community collaboration as crucial elements in building an ecological civilization capable of addressing the pressing challenges of the present and future.
Embark on a transformative journey with ‘Create Your Manifesto.’ In this workshop, you’ll craft your own personal manifesto, expressing your core values for life. You’ll design a unique user card, setting the stage for authentic self-expression. Define your agreements for this incredible journey and outline the questions you seek to answer. As you present your authentic self, you’ll connect with fellow students and get paired for virtual coffee sessions, fostering meaningful connections and inspiring growth.
Do you know how to embrace the complexity of design leadership, rather than letting it distract you and make you ineffective?
In this Masterclass, Eric Quint will share what it takes to effectively engage with c-suite leaders and drive transformation together through design. Laying a strong foundation for design is necessary to successfully scale the value and impact of design. Eric will explore the following topics and lessons learned:
– What is the role of an executive design leader and how can you balance the often-conflicting objectives and activities you encounter.
– How to formulate and implement a pathway for design in line with the overarching strategy of your organization.
– Why is having a governance defined for design a prerequisite for successful engagement and clear understanding of design investments,
reporting and allocation of design across your organization.
Participants will learn about the complexities of executive design leadership as presented through numerous frameworks, design research and case stories that will inspire and motivate how to ignite your design leadership effectiveness.
Unlock the power of design in the C-suite with our ‘Facilitated Discussion + Innovation Self-Assessment’. Drawing inspiration from Jeanne Leadka’s ‘Minimum Viable Competencies,’ you’ll evaluate your skills and knowledge through this assessment. Engage in enriching discussions as you exchange insights with your peers. Then, armed with your self-assessment results, you’ll receive guidance on crafting a personalized development plan, a vital resource during our upcoming facilitation week. Join us on this journey to elevate your leadership through design thinking and innovation.

This Futures Stack spans Landscape, World Building, Storytelling and Roadmapping. Each layer has a suite of tools and perspectives, and participants will learn to use these through collaborating in small teams during this hands-on session. Together with Stéphan Willemse, you will try to answer the question: How might we use a design mindset to disrupt our futures trajectory?
Design is a strategic asset and is key in managing complexity of the entire business (ecosystem, products, users and related stakeholders), as well as a tool to create new opportunities and value propositions.
Learn about how to prove value of design using metrics and watch case studies to help you be more innovative from mindset to products, helping you build your capability aiming for maneuverability over speed.
This workshop walks through the basics of product metrics and focuses on the process and strategy of defining, tracking, and interpreting design-related metrics to better guide teams through decision-making.
You’ll have access to the leading frameworks, hacks, and concepts that you’ll be able to apply to your product or service, get amazing results, and engage stakeholders.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to engage stakeholders in design metrics and experimentation, demonstrate the value of design to stakeholders, and determine whether or not design changes are having a positive impact on the experience.
One more step in the realm of products and services, with a focus on leading digital products to excel until the last mile of design.
This workshop isn’t just about building a design system; it’s about transforming your design team with DesignOps and culture. Michel Ferreira will share his experiences in leveraging design systems to foster community, accelerate delivery, and elevate the entire design group. You will dive deep into practical strategies for:
– Building a shared language and vision: We’ll explore how design systems can break down silos and create a unified design culture, where everyone speaks the same language and understands the bigger picture.
– Streamlining workflows and improving efficiency: Learn how design systems can act as a single source of truth, reducing redundancy and boosting team productivity.
– Empowering designers and developers: Discover how design systems can equip your teams with reusable components and clear guidelines, freeing them to focus on higher-level design thinking and innovation.
As artificial intelligence (A.I.) becomes ubiquitous, designers must bring a human-centered approach to the algorithms that increasingly shape our lives. Through data, we can speak to machines—and machines can speak back, opening up new opportunities for understanding and inclusivity.
This class will consider the following:
How can designers adapt and thrive in this evolving terrain?
How might we map out new brands, platforms, and experiences between human and machine?
What dangers must we address?
What destructive ideologies and biases must we reveal and combat?
What possibilities for a better future might we explore and prototype with discriminative and generative A.I. in mind?
We should not trust a technology that has no true understanding of human consequences to take the lead. Instead, we human designers have to blaze the path forward ourselves.
We are in the midst of an arms race in A.I., global tech conglomerates are racing against each other to develop the next generation of LLMs to be larger, smarter, more intuitive, and humanlike, while the tech titans battle for the Top A.I. Podium, the rest of the tech world has its own race, adding AI functions into their products or building completely new ones based on AI capabilities.
While A.I. can be useful, helpful, delightful, and fun, many unanswered questions must be considered when deciding to add any type of A.I. model to products and/or services.
Designing A.I. is not just figuring out the user experience, but rather the need, utility, trust, and behavior of both the users and A.I..
What kind of A.I. would our users benefit from most?
Will it be ethical, and respectful?
How will we handle it when it lies or invents data?
Takeaways:
– Identifying if my product needs A.I.
– Identifying the Why (why our users might need A.I.)
– Identifying the When (when our users need A.I. in their daily lives)
– Identifying the How (how will our users be using A.I.)
– Considering types of A.I.:
– Generative (most common)
– Extractive
– Predictive
– Understanding the difference between Contextual and Non Contextual A.I.
– Planning A.I. Product/Feature(s)
Can you and your organization play a role in making social change? In this Masterclass, Lesley-Ann Noel will share 3 big ideas about making social change:
