On December 14th, Echos hosted the 1st Christmas Innovation Day, a day of insight, co-creation, guest speakers and, of course, innovation.
To start the year off with a little inspiration, here are the highlights of the event, if you weren’t there in the flesh.
Morning Sessions
Echos Introduction, with Echos Content Strategist – yours truly – Rani Ghazzaoui Luke
Echos is an innovation lab that has eight years of experience and a global presence – with operations in Brazil, Australia and Portugal – under its belt.
I kicked off the day’s activities by sharing with attendees the Echos’ story and why design, innovation and the future walk hand in hand.
Designing Desirable Futures, with Echos co-founder Juliana Proserpio
Juliana Proserpio had only one thing in her mind, the future: “Designing the future is a political act, and, therefore, comes with consequences. Designing futures should be done in an ethical, collaborative and inclusive way.”
Juliana touched on the idea that, unless we want to end up living in a dystopian future reality that resembles an episode of Black Mirror, we need to roll up our sleeves and start collaborating mindfully and ethically to create a future we will be pleased to be a part of.

Design Thinking For Business Innovation, with Echos co-founder and CEO Ricardo Ruffo
Ricardo Ruffo brought the conversation back to basics by speaking about Design Thinking and how the methodologies can be applied to business.
An expert in the theme, with extensions in renowned schools like MIT and Berkeley in the United States and HPI – D.school in Germany, Ricardo shared knowledge with the crowd inciting them to start practising human-centred innovation in their lives and business.
Innovation Panel, Q&A, with industry experts guest speakers, Paulina Larocca and Eduardo Pucu
A creative leader, author and an expert in creativity in leadership, Paulina Larocca, and experienced designer, researcher, trainer and author, Eduardo Pucu, elevated the conversation when they joined Juliana Proserpio to speak about innovation.
The crowd participated by submitting questions and comments.
Networking & Warm-Up Exercises
During lunchtime, attendees were encouraged to mingle and participate in Design Thinking “warm-up” exercises, which are standard practices before Design Thinking sessions.
Afternoon Session
Fast Forward Design Thinking Session, with Echos co-founder and CEO Ricardo Ruffo
In the afternoon, Ricardo Ruffo facilitated a Design Thinking Sprint, in which participants had a chance to experience the entire Design Thinking process in a fast-paced way.
How To Design Phygital (Physical + Digital) Services, with Echos co-founder Juliana Proserpio
Juliana came back in the afternoon to speak about “phygital” services. Juliana shared with attendees her broad knowledge of service design and explained the notion that the physical world and the digital world are now, one, and therefore, services should be designed with this new reality in mind.
